I love telling this story. It is simple, and sweet. The Simple Things began in 2005 when Debra Campbell decided to bring her dreams to life and open a gift shop. For a year and a half I would visit this shop, always excited at what oddity I might find. You see, Debbie liked to keep unusual, hard-to-find gifts. And when you checked out, if it was a gift, she would always put it in a cute bag with some tissue paper. I just loved the place. The day I drove by the store and saw the "Sale-Store Closing" sign in the window, I thought I would cry. This quaint little shop in this quaint little town couldn't possibly close! I stopped in to see her and to ask what was going on! She said that she loved the shop but really felt God calling her in a different direction. Very disheartened, I got in my car and drove home. Pulling into my driveway, I decided to see if she would sell me the business. Without even turning off the engine, I turned around, went right back to the store and asked her if she would be interested in selling the business. There's not much after that. My twin sister said there was no way I was going to do this without her, and in March 2007, The Simple Things, LLC was established. Debbie still remains a friend to us, and we still carry her original Vander Light Candles. We still carry unique gifts and put them in a bag with tissue paper (or giftwrap). We still believe in honest, top quality products and service. And you can always count on a smile!
